Dr April Miu joined NQMIS and Townsville University Hospital in 2021.
She is the designated surgeon for BreastScreen Queensland in Townsville.
Dr Miu completed her surgical training in John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, New South Wales. She then worked as a fellow in Sydney hospitals, including the role of surgical superintendent at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and undertook her postgraduate fellowship training in breast surgery through BreastSurg ANZ in Auckland City Hospital, Royal Perth Hospital and Wollongong Hospital. She was trained in all aspects of current breast surgery techniques, including oncoplastic surgery. She was also trained in the use of wire free techniques to excise breast lesions and with Dr Winder, is currently exploring the use of these techniques in Townsville.
Dr Miu is the supervisor of surgical training at Townsville University Hospital for the RACS and GSA and is senior clinical lecturer at James Cook University. She is an instructor for the Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient course conducted by RACS.
When not working as a surgeon, Dr Miu enjoys playing the piano, attending concerts and baking.
Dr Miu and Dr Winder work together in both NQMIS and Townsville University Hospital and collaborate on both patient care and will also operate together for selected cases.
